| About Our Relaxation Videos Positive Communication's videos are very different from commercial
television, movies, and other videotaped programs. Commercial TV and movies - with their
loud music, quick changes in scenes and commercial breaks - can agitate, confuse or
frustrate geriatric clients. Our videos are tailored to the capabilities and tastes of
low-functioning adults and geriatric patients.
Our name, and its inspiration, comes from a commitment to make the
therapeutic effects of positive, soothing communication available in inexpensive, easy to
use VHS or DVD.
We work closely with activity providers to offer the
most effective and appealing videos for their clients. Here are the main characteristics
of our productions:
Length of productions: 20 to 30 minutes each, recognizing
that viewers' attention spans are short.
Length and
types of scenes: longer and simpler than commercial videos and mass media, to
help ensure that the material is pleasing. The leisurely pace gives viewers the feeling
they are participating in the scene.
Music:
soft, soothing, and relaxing. Music is selected to support the topic and mood of
productions. No narration is used; non-verbal communication,
including music, is emphasized. Viewers can pop in and out mentally, and still enjoy the
video activity.
Topics: our videos focus on the beauty and serenity of nature and
rural America, and take advantage of the documented potential of these subjects to relax
and gently entertain geriatric clients.
Colors: blue,
green, gold and brown are highlighted. Research studies show these colors can relax or
very gently stimulate mental activity in viewers.
